The theme for September is End-of-Life and Self-Care. I don’t think they are mutually exclusive. As we think about bringing new life into the world we must also focus on helping those at end-of-life. Many of you work with our clients as they progress through this journey, at times, for a number of years. The compassion and kindness that you show to them is priceless and should make you feel everyday as though you are making a difference.
At the same time we are giving of ourselves to others we must remember to take care of ourselves. As we have an ever growing population of those in need we will have a great need for those who will care for them. Remember constant exposure to those who are facing a lot of hurdles in their daily life including the stress and emotions that result can be taxing to us. We can experience compassion fatigue where we do not feel the compassion we once felt as we have given too much. Sometimes talking about it, can help sometimes setting good boundaries is a step in the right direction.
Getting enough rest, taking time out for the hobbies and experiences we enjoy is essential. Good nutrition helps and talking helps. The best place for us to find a good pair of listening ears is here at Eldercare Services. Our client’s privacy is important so please don’t discuss with your family or friends. You can call us and ask to speak to your Care Manager, your Care Supervisor or to the Clinical Director. We are all in this together and it is our job to support you.
Eldercare employees may attend the special guest lecturer we have coming from Hospice of the Easy Bay in September.
